Elysian Detroit is a one man independent publisher. To borrow from Louis XIV: L’entreprise, c’est moi. I publish using Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing service, which can handle various print formats and of course e-book formats.
I publish works I think have enough intrinsic worth to be published but which have been, or are likely to be, unsuccessful in attracting the attention of traditional publishers.
This doesn’t mean I invite submissions from anyone who has failed to attract other publishers’ attention. I am meticulous in the editing process, and that takes time, though I am considering using AI such as ChatGPT to help. If that works out, I may take on quite a bit more. As of right now, I am unlikely to take on more than one a year.
You should understand, too, that unlike a traditional publisher I do not market Elysian books. Marketing and promotions are up to the author. This is not a step backwards. In my opinion, in today’s socially mediated environment, and with the help of AI, effective marketing and promotion are well within the reach and capabilities of authors themselves, and/or their friends and families.
My standard contract is 60% of royalties net of my costs go to you, 40% to Elysian Detroit.
I enjoy the publishing and editing process and I like to see worthy effort rewarded, at least with a product to hold in the hand.
